Tibetan Medicine and Tibetan Doctors Tibet Foundation guarantees that the herbal medicine prescribed by the Foundation doctors are prepared according to the traditional Tibetan medical formula and process, and that the doctors concerned are fully qualified from the Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute) in Dharamsala. This is the primary Institute giving training in Tibetan medicine in exile. Consultations For all consultations, advance booking for an appointment is necessary. This can be done by contacting the Foundation either by email, telephone, or letter, and providing your name, address, contact number/email, and preferred appointment time and date. Consultations are approximately 15 minutes long. The Doctor may prescribe Tibetan medicine during the consultation. There will be additional charges for these. Please do not take any intoxicating substances during the 24 hours before seeing the doctor. Tea and coffee are fine. Please bring a small sample of your urine in a clean, preferably clear-sided bottle or jamjar. The sample should be taken on the day you are coming to see the doctor, before consuming any food, drink or medication. The Foundation does not take responsibility for any cancellation caused by circumstances beyond its control. The Foundation reserves the right to accept or refuse appointments without providing reasons, or to cancel appointments if necessary. Consultation fees will be refunded in such cases. Fees Since January 2003 the consultation fees have been £30 for patients who are not members of Tibet Foundation, and £18 for current Members. Consultation fees must be paid in advance, within seven days of making a booking. If you need to cancel your appointment please let us know at least 2 weeks before your appointment. In such case we will refund 50 % of your consultation fee. Failing to inform us 2 weeks in advance will result in forfeit of the full consultation fee. As the Doctors travel from India we incur considerable costs organising the visit. Medicines are supplied in two month packets, and charged at £18 for one prescribed medicine, £30 for two prescribed medicines, £40 for three prescribed medicines and £50 for four prescribed medicines and Plus Post & Packaging fees of £5.00 (Including both India & UK Posting fees). The Foundation reserves the right to change fees, procedures and rules without notice. Medical Instructions Please ensure that the doctor has explained precisely when and how to take the medicine and that you understand this and anything you would like to know about your health, diet, etc., which might be important. When doctors are not available in London the Foundation is not able to give advice of this nature. Re-ordering of Herbal Medicine The Foundation does not store medicine in London. It accepts re-orders of medicine based on prescriptions issued by a Tibet Foundation doctor in London as recorded on your medical record. These are fulfilled by the Doctor from India. Medicine re-orders must be made through the Tibet Foundation office. Medicines are supplied in two month packets. When sending a request for a re-order of medicine please advise us for how many two-month periods you wish to re-order. We cannot re-order one part of your prescription unless the doctor has specifically mentioned it on the prescription. Re-ordering medicine from India may take up to one month to arrive. They will be shipped by the doctor to Tibet Foundation, then sent out from Tibet Foundation by Royal Mail.
