Tibetans Celebrate the Golden Jubilee

Tibet Foundation is organising a two-week long festival to mark the Golden Jubilee from Saturday 1st to Sunday 16th June 2002 at the Tibetan Culture Centre, 2 St James's Market, London SW1Y 4SBHis Holiness the Dalai Lama has sent a special message supporting the celebrations. Tibet Foundation will be presenting a Sand Mandala to Her Majesty the Queen as an offering to wish happiness and a long life for Her Majesty and the Royal Family, and peace and prosperity for the people of Great Britain. On behalf of Her Majesty, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has agreed to accept the Sand Mandala in person at Highgrove on Monday 3rd June 2002.A mandala is an intricately created cosmology of a Buddhist Deity. The sand mandala being created and presented to Her Majesty will be that of the Buddha of Medicine, a deity associated with long life and harmony. It is created from coloured sand particles - a uniquely Tibetan art. Sand Mandala and Butter Sculpture Prior to the actual festival we have arranged two days especially for the media for a PREVIEW of the Sand Mandala and Butter Sculptures (another special feature of the celebrations) to record and/or take photographs.
