Author Charles Allen will deliver the annual Tibet Foundation Lecture speaking about Ashoka, the Buddhist emperor of India.

An illustrated lecture by historian of South Asia Charles Allen on the role of Emperor Ashoka in the transformation of Buddhism into a world religion and the process by which Ashoka was ‘discovered’ by Orientalists in the nineteenth century. 

Following the lecture, there will be a reception with drinks and nibbles, and a chance to meet Foundation staff and volunteers. 

Presented in association with the Circle of Tibetan and Himalayan Studies at SOAS.
