In ancient times when the peach tree was in blossom, it was considered as the start of a new year. Since the systematisation of the Tibetan calendar in 1027 A.D, the first day of the first month became fixed as the New Year. Today, the Tibetans continue to celebrate their Losar or New Year. They will be celebrating 2133 Royal Year of Tibet, the Year of Fire-Dog on 28th February 2006. The Tibet Foundation cordially invites its supporting members and sponsors to the Losar Reception.
