LECTURE BY PROFESSOR ROBERT THURMAN Buddhism was introduced to Tibet in the 7th century and Tibetan civilisation can be considered the most extreme experiment in the history of Buddhist social engineering. This lecture will focus on the question of what was introduced, how it interacted with existing Tibetan culture, and how it eventually transformed the Tibetan identity. Professor Robert Thurman is a Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies at the Columbia University. Professor Thurman is strong supporter of Tibet and presently the President of Tibet House US, New York. This talk is a part of Asia House's Understanding Buddhism series, which is sponsored by Bagri Foundation.
