A Public Talk by Dr. Tsewang Tamdin Dr. Tsewang Tamdi

A Public Talk by Dr. Tsewang Tamdin Dr. Tsewang Tamdin, senior physician and pharmaceutical director at the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute (TMAI) in Dharamsala will give a public talk during his visit to London to treat patients. Tibetan Medicine is an ancient healing tradition from the Himalayas. Like other Asian systems of health, its popularity is growing in the West as well as being practised across China. Tibetan medicine is now in the headlines after a pill made from nine different herbs were reported as being effective in combating Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). A Lhasa pharmaceutical company sold out of Rilbu GusNag (Pill made from nine herbs) due to high demand from China. So far there is no scientific evidence as to how Tibetan medicine can cure this deadly disease and so Tibetan doctors are cautious on making claims for the pills. However similar medicines have been used to treat similar diseases in the past. Speaking to the Associated Press last month, Dr. Tamdin said "We are not sure if it's 100 per cent effective but it certainly can help". The Tibetan doctor stressed the need for preventative measures and basic hygiene precautions, "Other means to protect yourself from the virus, such as wearing face masks, are also effective".

Dr. Tsewang Tamdin is one of the visiting Tibetan physicians at the Tibet Foundation and is available for medical consultations in London from 18 - 21 May and in Birmingham on 17 May. As part of the Foundation's Art & Culture programme, we are delighted to arrange a rare public talk by such an eminent doctor. With his immense clinical experience over twenty-five years both in Asia and in West, Dr. Tamdin will speak on the Human Immune System from the Tibetan medical point of view in London during this visit.
