Tibetan Language Courses
Subject to availability of teachers, and suitable numbers of students, the Tibet Foundation occasionally conducts three Tibetan Language Courses:
Modern Spoken Tibetan
This course allows students to grasp the basics of the modern, colloquial language. Simple conversation and useful day to day vocabulary are introduced, enabling students to make themselves understood in a variety of commonplace situations. No previous knowledge of Tibetan is required.
Modern Written Tibetan
A solid introduction to the U-Chen script and the subtleties of written Tibetan grammar. This course also covers many aspects of the colloquial and honorific spoken language (Lhasa dialect).
Intermediate Tibetan
A course concentrating on the honorific terms found in Tibetan, for those with a reasonable level of confidence with the language.
The courses are taught in small groups by native Tibetan speakers, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Like all languages, Tibetan requires a degree of commitment to master, but its rewards are great.
Please contact Tibet Foundation Office for more details of course availability.
